Junior Colts A VII

In terms of results, this was a disappointing season for the

top side in the Junior Colts age group.

Nevertheless, there are some talented

individuals who, when they mature, learn to

listen better to instructions and work harder

in training and in matches, will enjoy better

success in the future. This may seem a harsh

introduction to a season report but, as coach,

I rarely got the best out of the squad this year

and, had it been Premiership football, would

probably have gone the way of the “Special

One”! [

I believe this is a reference to a former

manager of Chelsea FC – Ed.

]

Part of our problem began at goalkeeper,

with nobody really keen to make this place

his own.

Api Brown

was my pick of the

contenders and he showed considerable

talent and bravery and really could make this

his position in future if he could be convinced

to play in goal. Our defenders were ably led

by

Dylan Guo

who read the game very well

and showed some good dribbling skills when

pushing forward. Others included

Masato

Higuchi

who played with great energy on the

pitch and Harry Nichol (who also

played in midfield) who showed

some nice touches on the ball. The

midfield places were rotated between

Tate Cecil and

Tobi Amusan

who

played on the wings, with

Kit Holland

and

George Marks

taking up

more central positions. The

latter two proved effective

when delivering free kicks and

corners and Kit was our top

goal scorer of the season, thanks

to his excellent hat-trick in our sole victory

against Crosfields. The striker’s role fell to

Austin Anite

, following an impressive start

to the season in the B team. He showed a

good knack of being in the right place at the

right time; however, he also found out that

defences in the A team opposition were that

much tighter.

Some results could have gone our way

had we shown greater commitment.

However, once we had lost the

opening two games of the

season, both by a single

goal, it was very hard to

start gaining any real

momentum. Our resolve

was further dampened by a

more savvy Magdalen team

and an excellent Lambrook

side. Thankfully, we put in

a convincing performance

against Crosfields; although

they were not as strong as

previous years, we competed

strongly in all areas of the

pitch and produced a great

spectacle. Some of this was

also evident in our match

against Ludgrove where we

went ahead twice in a thrilling game.

Despite the results, the boys were always

good company and played sportingly. They

were well supported by their patient parents

and I am sure that they will enjoy greater

success in the future.
