Elstree. Having gone 1-0 down, then 2-1
down, we eventually took the lead. Some
exceptionally good teamwork, with
Eddie
Aram
and
Lade Ogundeyin
timing their
passes beautifully, we finished with a 4-3
win, with two goals apiece for Edsberg and
Ogundeyin.
At home to Ludgrove we had all the
possession and in the first half alone there
were at least nine shots on target – well
done the opposition keeper! It was clear
to see that the boys had really blossomed
into a team by now. Their understanding
and reading of each other’s positions
and moves was a joy to watch. A 7-0 win
against Lockers Park was followed by a
cold, wet afternoon at Cothill, where again
we encountered the curse of the small
goals. We had to dig deep and defend well
against determined opposition but goals
from Aram and Edsberg helped ensure that
victory was ours.
Throughout the term the U9As were
responsive and fun – a joy to coach. They
were an enormously talented group, with
Snow an exceptional captain who led from
the front. I look forward to following their
results as they progress through the school.

The 2015 season was one of my
favourite in recent years.Whilst
it was not a vintage season in
terms of results, the team had
plenty of firepower and scored
many cracking goals, ending
with a goal difference of +20!
The only disappointments were the losses to
Cothill and Elstree, both teams we dominated
for long periods. As is always the case in
Under 9s football, the progression the boys
made as individuals and in working as a team
was dramatic. Ironically some of the best
football we played was in the last match
against Cothill where we had possession for
long periods but could not find the back of
the net and eventually lost 0-3.
The team was captained superbly by a
tenacious and skilful
Benjamin Jurdjevic
who was also the top scorer with 12 goals.
His cracking left-footed goal and top corner
effort against a strong Lockers Park side
were highlights. In goal we were lucky to
have
Leonardo Lord
who pulled off some
wonderful saves and had a strong clearing
boot to get us out of numerous pressure
situations. Lord also came out of goal and
scored a couple of goals in the second half
of the team’s demolition of a relatively
weak Horris Hill team. At the back, the
team was marshalled by a very strong
central defender in the form of
Max Reeve
.
His strong tackling and big clearances set
the platform for arguably the team’s best
performance in beating Lockers Park 5-4
in a very exciting match. The middle of the
pitch was controlled by
Hal Holland
who
contributed more miles than anyone else,
usually taking most corners and free kicks
as well as attacking and defending in equal
measure. As the season progressed, the team
developed the confidence to use the whole
space on the pitch thanks largely to the
positional understanding and discipline of the
two wingers,
Archie Heseltine
and
Edoardo
Petrelli,
whose work-rate improved hugely.
The team was joined by
Ulysses Hu
for the
last two matches, following his excellent
progress with the U9Cs.
I thoroughly enjoyed coaching this group
of boys and will watch their progress with
interest as they move up the school. Well
done, boys!
