7th &
8th IX
Games 4 & 5 are the training
grounds for the family of
teams loosely known as the
7th and 8th IXs.
They are a cauldron of intensive fitness
regimes and cunning set-piece practices.
Given the wide range of sides that JJP
organises for us to play, we are able to select
a large number of different boys to represent
the school in the course of the term. This
season we had 54 boys representing the
school under the banner of either the 7th or
8th IX (and sometimes both).We played 13
matches, winning 11 of them and losing 2.
We scored 39 goals and conceded 25, the
latter including the seven we let in
against Cheam 5ths and five when
the 8th IX played New College 3rds.
With so many boys playing
it is hard to single out any
particular individuals
for special praise
but a few names
do come to mind.
William Llewellen
Palmer
scored some
great goals for both teams and
also captained the 8th IX
exceedingly well.
I particularly
enjoyed
his goal
in our 4-1
victory over
the Elstree 5th
IX; nobody was more surprised thanWilliam
himself that his volley from wide of the
penalty area came off the centre of his boot
and shot like a tracer into the back of the net.
Rigby Swarovski Adams
captained the 7ths
with similar aplomb and was always willing to
play anywhere on the field to give others in
the team their moments of glory at the front.
There were hat-tricks for
Titus MacDermot
and
Nassir Al Saud
against Lockers Park
4ths and
Christopher Orr
scored four in an
emphatic win over Cothill.
Alexander Ershov
and
George Corbett
also deserve special
praise for their goal-keeping. It was good once
again not only to have safe hands in goal
but to have two keepers who could
comfortably reach the halfway
line from clearance kicks; it immediately put
oppositions under pressure and reduced the
frantic penalty area scrabbling which is so
often a feature of football at this level.
Finally a word of thanks to KLHN and GIJP
who ensured the boys understood the game
and achieved levels of fitness that kept them
ahead. I would particularly like to thank the
boys for making the season so enjoyable. They
were fun to coach and always a pleasure to
take to away matches - very well done!

looking for support – when placed alongside
AyomideAjibola
. The latter impressed me
with his energy and hunger to win the ball
and earned himself a promotion to the 5th IX.
Olisa Ogbue
remained firmly entrenched on
the right wing, where he worked hard to find
crosses and scored one particularly memorable
goal with a demonstration of silky skill that
took him past four defenders!
Arthur Nicolle
took time to settle in, but found his position
in the centre; you could count on him to be in
the right place, especially at midfield, where he
had the sense to hang back off the defence to
win back a clearance.
Finally, our keeper,
Luke Eadie
was key
to our successful season. He was bold and
unflinching, making some outstanding
saves, especially against Ludgrove. His most
endearing characteristic was enthusiasm; this
made him prone to dribbling the ball the entire
length of the pitch for a shot, but I wouldn’t
swap that attitude for anything!
