Colts C VII
The season saw great individual and collective progression for
the squad. Although a number of individuals made noteworthy
contributions throughout the season, and everyone worked hard
in training, the most pleasing characteristic of the year was the
teamwork demonstrated as they developed as a defensive unit
and an incisive attacking force.
In our first match Moulsford taught us a
lesson in keeping possession and, whilst
Bobby Cai
was outstanding in goal, our
defensive unit was unable to keep out the
waves of attack that crashed upon us. There
was a glimpse of our ability to get forward
and score, with two good goals from
Clyde
Lartey
and
Koko Momodu
. An improved
performance against Cheam saw us far
stronger in defence led by our captain,
Oscar Ngong
. However, it was against MCS
that the season really got going with a
dominant display in which Momodu scored
five, supported by fine strikes from
Yan
Kolpakov
and
Freddie Newland
.
At Lambrook we staged a magnificent
comeback after being 1-3 down at half-time.
In an outstanding team performance
Oscar
Gleason
covered every blade of grass in his
efforts to tackle and win back possession,
Cai made some excellent saves,
Henry
Kendall
and Kolpakov played some beautiful
passes and Momodu was devastating in
front of goal, netting another five. Against
Crosfields, despite scoring two good goals,
we lost the battle for possession. In contrast,
Elstree was a close, hard-fought match, with
Oliver Edwards
having an excellent game
as a ball winner to help us to victory. Lartey
scored a great goal from 20 yards out and
Kendall produced a clinical finish to a great
team move.
Ludgrove were simply too strong for us.
They played intelligently and were extremely
dangerous on the counter-attack. Against
Lockers Park we conceded early in the game,
and confidence wobbled. However, we
dragged ourselves back into contention, with
goals from Kendall and Momodu. Both sides
had chances in the final minute to snatch
a winner before the final whistle blew with
honours even. Our best performance came
in the final match against a powerful Cothill
team. Throughout the game we competed
strongly, looking secure at the back and
dangerous in attack.
Gabriel Thomas
was
outstanding on his debut for the team in
defence. A goal-less draw seemed certain
as full-time approached, but in the final
moments Cothill burst through to steal the
winner.
I was very pleased with the squad and
their willingness to play for each other.
Everyone made a significant contribution. I
look forward to seeing all the boys play in
the senior sides next season; well done!
