and

Orlando Soundy

– who, by

guile and gag, weaved many a ball into the

correct net to secure three victories and two

draws, and one memorable ‘friendly’ win over

our very own third team. Only one match was

lost in the season.

MWIJ

5th IX

It was a mixed season for this

year’s 5th IX.

They lost by one goal against Moulsford,

Elstree 4ths and Cothill, they had emphatic

victories against Cheam and Lambrook,

and they lost 2-4 to a good Ludgrove side.

In the first three fixtures

James Scott

was captain and he scored four goals. This

led to his promotion to the 3rd IX.

Oliver

Crawford

came into the side for the last

four matches and he scored five goals in

total.

Jake Simpson

scored a hat-trick

against Cheam and two goals against

Lambrook. Sadly he was not fit for the last

three matches and he was sorely missed.

Rigby Swarovski Adams

came into the

side and crossed the ball well from the

right wing. By the end of the season an

established back three of

Teddy Barlow,

Samuel Akiode

and

Francis Frankopan

were reliable in defence. Behind them

Vadim Gurinov

in goal was also reliable

and made some spectacular saves. The

most regular players in midfield were

Hieronim Hodges

and

Fred Prickett

.

They, more than most, passed accurately

and tackled well.

Patrick Hannon

played a

number of games before being promoted

to Game Two. The season would have been

a better one if skilful players had passed

the ball more regularly rather than try to

dribble through the opposition.We also

missed too many goals when players failed

to convert simple chances into goals. Some

really good football was played but sadly it

was not sustained throughout all matches.

6th IX

A successful year for the 6th

IX who, from a coaching point

of view, made rather hard work

of things during the week’s

practice then would pull it out

of the bag for a match.

If you want to impress a coach, give

it the whole nine yards every time. A

few key people managed to do this and

consequently stood out sharply.

Jinsung

Ha

was an unflappable right back and

made a good pairing with

Salman Al

Saud

. Both gave the attacking opposition

a hard time, often winning the ball back

to set up the next attacking manoeuvre.

Anton Shashenkov

flitted from forward to

midfield then settled in his left field position

and remained a positive presence.

Henry

Minter

, promoted to the team mid-season,

managed to fill a hole in the backs and

played an offensive role, complementing

nicely Shashenkov’s more direct attacking

style.

Rory Millard

, who was also promoted

last minute, fortuitously stepped into

Minter’s boots for the final match versus

Cothill, with a faultless performance!

Temi Balogun

was awkward to position.

Naturally a forward, he would hold the ball

a little too long, but started to make real

strides – passing with more thought and

“If you want to

impress a coach,

give it the whole

nine yards

every time”
