secured victory. After Long Leave our first
game was against Lockers Park, and in
difficult conditions the boys worked hard
and thoroughly deserved their 4-0 win. And
so to the final game of the season against
local rivals, Cothill. The boys saved their
best for last and, again in difficult weather
conditions, played superbly; our opponents
were not given a sniff of a chance and we
won by a comfortable margin.
Mark Spiridonov
was superb in between
the sticks. He has fantastic hands and his
accuracy with his kicking both off the floor
and out of hand was excellent. At right back,
Marcus Ovey
progressed well throughout
the season and his corners and balls into the
box were a constant threat. Both
Sebastian
Howland
and
Joe Standbrook
played at left
back. Both boys have a sweet left foot and
contributed well to the side. At the heart of
the back four,
Joseph Menell
and
Jack Miles
complemented each other well and both got
better and better as the season went on. On
the flanks,
Patrick Murray
and
Henry Daly
did well in getting forward and supporting
our attack, and they both scored some
important goals. In the centre of midfield,
Tommy Sainz de Vicuña
formed a strong
partnership with
Edward Bingham
and they
were a match for any central midfield that
we came up against.
Jack Barrett
led the
forward line well and he was ably supported
by
Pammie Emefiele
and
Tanitoluwa Edu
.
To finish, my thanks must go to all of the
parents for their support on the touchline
during the term, and to Mr Barrett, whose
passion and tireless work ethic were so
influential in ensuring the 1st XI had such a
successful season. On behalf of all our team
managers, I would also like to express our
gratitude to Mrs Darling and her team of
matrons for ensuring that all the Summer
Fields football teams were immaculately
turned out for school matches.

2nd XI
The term got off to the best
possible start with a 5-1
victory over Moulsford.
The half-time interval saw us with a 1-0
advantage, thanks to
Henry Daly’s
goal,
but they equalised immediately after the
re-start. However, we soon eased ahead
through scores from
Joss Barrie
and
Amil
Folawiyo; TJ Amusan
and Daly added
a couple more to take the game away
from the opposition. The next match
saw an equally dominant performance
from Summer Fields as Cheam were
comfortably beaten 4-1, which included
a hat-trick from
Folawiyo
. The Lambrook
encounter was always going to be the
toughest match of the term and added
to this we were missing a couple of key
players. Nevertheless our boys played
really well and almost managed to grind
out a goalless draw but unfortunately
with ten minutes left to play Summer
Fields conceded and could not get the
equaliser. The team got back to winning
ways when New College 1st XI visited but
it took a fairly stern team-talk at half-
time, when 2-1 down, to stir our players
into performing up to normal standard. In
the second half we twice had to equalise
before at last we managed to take the
lead with a goal from Florian Hull. Our
advantage was then extended twice more
as we finished 6-3 winners – with Folawiyo
having bagged four of them, and Barrie
scoring directly from a corner.
Against Elstree we produced a much
more accomplished performance, with
goals coming from
Beau Swallow
and,
from the penalty-spot,
Tom Capstick-
Dale
. Elstree continued to push forward
and it took some resolute defending and
a number of excellent saves from
Sam
Barrington
to keep the clean sheet.
The week before Long Leave saw two
matches in four days. First Ludgrove
were beaten 3-1, thanks to an own goal
and strikes from Hull and Folawiyo, and
then we travelled to Eton and secured
a very pleasing 3-0 victory over one of
their lower U14 sides, with
TJ Amusan
getting his name on the score-sheet for
the first time since the Moulsford game.
Only one game was scheduled after
Long Leave and unfortunately the break
did not have a good effect on the team.
In a terribly disappointing performance
we allowed a good Cothill side to defeat
us by a comfortable margin. This was a
real shame and not season-end that our
boys deserved. With six wins out of eight,
though, the boys of the 2015 2nd XI
are to be commended on their attitude
and enthusiasm throughout a successful
campaign.
