3rd XV

This was another excellent season

forTheWarthogs. For the first

time in recent years the squad

was blessedwith two coaches – a

backs expert and the traditional

‘MasterWarthog’ focusing on the

forwards.My thanks go to PDOS

for his experience and expertise.

We started at the end of the Michaelmas

Term with a training match that was one of

the most difficult fixtures that anyone could

face. A very strong (and big) U13B Caldicott

team completely dominated us to finish off

their season in style. We learnt many lessons

which were to help us once our campaign

began in earnest after the Christmas break.

Our true success came later in the season

where we showed our ambitious and

adventurous side to beat Cothill, Ludgrove

and Shrewsbury House through some

excellent running rugby with both backs and

forwards scoring.

We were hugely lucky to be blessed with

a determined captain,

Tom Howard

, and a

focused core of boys. Of particular note were

Tani Edu,Tomi Ojora, Ernest Newland,

Jeremy Ogbonna, Orlando Soundy, Finn

McCullagh, Samuel Akiode, Oliver Crawford

and

Tommy Sainz deVicuña

. However,

everyone in the squad played his part in an

immensely enjoyable season – the last one at

Summer Fields that will combine Removes and

5thYears in the same team.

TheWarthog Sevens Tournament took place

in early March and we entered three teams.

PDOS took charge of the A squad, JHB

the Bs and FJBF the C Squad.

As organizer, I found it

amazing to watch

some of the less

seasoned

boys

participate so whole-heartedly, including

my undiscovered player of the tournament,

Titus McDermott

.There was some great

rugby played in a competitive but friendly

atmosphere. The final was a very close-

run match between Summer Fields A and

Moulsford A, with the latter dominating the

final moments to win 17-14. In the final

of the Plate, Summer Fields B lost to a

very determined Horris Hill A

team.Well done to every

player involved who

contributed to a very

enjoyable day! Special

thanks must also go

to all the staff involved but particularly the

grounds, maintenance, catering and bursary

teams who helped with so much behind the

scenes to prepare wonderful pitches and

ensure smooth operations in the build-up to

the tournament.
