Junior
Colts A XI
The JCA season was a very
enjoyable one even if the
statistics suggest it was not
particularly successful.The boys
developed a great team spirit
and showed real enthusiasm
for their cricket. Furthermore,
there were significant individual
examples of improvement
which will surely bear fruit over
the coming years.
The side was led admirably by
DJ Banda
. His
quiet authority marks him out as a leader
of the future. He contributed with
bat, ball and magnificently in the
field. His innings at Moulsford,
and particularly at Cothill,
showed great maturity. His
bowling was genuinely rapid,
although a tighter line will
bring more wickets.We were
very lucky to have a second
all-rounder in
Harry Nell
. He
batted and bowled with aggression
and fielded bravely, catching everything that
came his way and effecting several run outs.
Henry Macdonald
worked at his batting
and secured his place at the top of the order.
He hit the ball hard and the timing of his
drives really improved; he played some vital
innings, particularly against Cheam and the
Dragon.
Harry Nichol
was his usual opening
partner, combining this role with that of
wicketkeeper. His infectious enthusiasm was
great for the team.
Alverey Bowlby
saved
the game against Elstree and
Api Brown
did a similar job against Cheam. These two
learned, during the season, the need to value
your wicket and how
to build an innings.
Both boys also
contributed in the
other areas of the
game and in many
ways typified
the team spirit
of this group. In the same way,
Archie
Dunipace
and
Dylan Guo
were consistent
performers, whenever called upon, in
whatever area.
The leading wicket-taker was
Kit Holland
.
He showed the value of attacking the
stumps for five, or even six, balls an over.
His control of line and length was the
main ingredient for his success. He did add
a little extra pace and this was certainly
evident during his best spell, which included
a hat-trick (all bowled) at Cothill. He was
supported in the quick-bowling department
by
George Marks
, who was also at his
best when he concentrated on
accuracy rather than pace.
Tate
Cecil
showed great promise as
a spin bowler, but it was hard
to convince him that this is his
best route to cricketing success.
I really hope that he perseveres
with his ‘leggies’.Without taking
anything away from his batting
and fielding, this skill is the one which
will see him turn the most games.
Somers
Elworthy
, an off-spinner, made great
progress; he clearly loves his cricket and next
year can become a more attacking bowler,
with real control of his length.
I want to thank the many parents, whose
enthusiastic support from the boundary was
a ‘twelfth man’.
