Golf
Breaking with tradition, the golfing calendar began with the
annual Parent and Sons competition. It was a fantastic day, with
an entry of 25 boys and their fathers or mothers, and the overall
winners were Henry Daly and his father.
Following this was the first major
tournament played internally,
the Marston Cup.With a
strong group of thirty
boys competing in the
medal, some superb
golf was on display.
Tom
Capstick-Dale
, captain of golf, shook off
challenges from
TomHoward
and
Daly to take the prize. With a
lot of boys enjoying their golf,
we had the luxury of fielding
two very strong teams to
host both Pinewood and
Cheam in the summer term.
The boys were very impressive in
their win against Pinewood but were slightly
outplayed against by Cheam. Next came the
Independent Schools Golf Association national
competition atWellington, where our best
six golfers competed on a challenging course
designed for senior school boys. The boys
showed great skill and character to perform
admirably, with a notable display from
Capstick-Dale, who finished in the
top 20, and
Jack Barrett
(top 40) in a
strong field of over 80 players. Perhaps
the highlight of the golfing year
was a Leavers’ tour toWest Sussex.
RBL joined us as six boys visited
Windlesham House Prep School.
We were treated to a warm-up
on the practice facilities at
West Sussex golf club in
Pulbrough before going
on toWindlesham,
where we sadly went
down to an extremely
talented opposition. Our hosts
looked after us well, and provided an excellent
BBQ supper.
In the summer holidays we were represented
by Daly at the 2016 Stowe Putter. With another
year to go, he did remarkably well and led an
extremely strong field going into the second
round, before finishing a very creditable 6th.
Golf at Summer Fields is in fine fettle with
many keen Removes and 3rdYears coming
through the ranks and I look forward to seeing
them progress next year.

Polo
Polo continues to go from
strength to strength at
Summer Fields.
The squad, consisting of both senior and
junior boys, practise every Tuesday as part
of our regular Activities Programme.We
were lucky enough this year to have four
very experienced players in our A team, led
by captain
Christian Oberschneider
, who
returned to school in September having
enjoyed a very successful summer of polo
in the Hipwood tournament, with his
handicap rising from -2 to -1. The other
members of his team were
Tomi Ojora
,
Amil Folowayo
and
Marc Lindgren
.
In May two teams competed
in the National Schools
Championships. The A Team
ended up Runners-up in the
overall competition after
a fierce battle with a
very strong team from
Beaudesert. Our boys
fought their hearts out
only to narrowly miss
out on the National
title. Ojora was
awarded the prize for
the most promising
player of the tournament. Meanwhile the B
Team, captained by
Olisa Ogbue
came first
in Division 3 with three straight wins; they
swept all before them in three memorable
chukkas and can be proud of topping their
division.
Salman Al Saud
was awarded the
prize for the best novice of the tournament,
whilst
Savva Grevtsev
and
Imran Tinubu
also benefited from the experience of
competitive play.
On the last Sunday in June
we held the first Summer Fields
Invitational polo tournament
at Kirtlington Polo Park,
thanks to the organisation of
Mrs Oberschneider and
sponsorship fromAidan
Meller Galleries in Oxford.
To our delight our 1st
and 2nd teams both
won their divisions in
hard fought matches to
run out overall winners.
