B XII
For many of the group, this
was their first proper season
of cricket and the boys were
gradually introduced to the
many and complex aspects of
the game.
The B (and C) team matches were all played
under the pairs cricket format, where each
pair of players bats for a certain number of
overs, losing 5 runs each time one of them
is out. Each player also normally bowls at
least one over. This allows everyone to be
equally involved in the game and requires a
basic level of competency from all! The lack
of experience was very evident in the early
matches where the B XII were outgunned
by stronger opposition, and it was only later
in the season that boys’ individual talents
started to shine.
Ulysses Hu
and
Eugene Perekhozhev
were the two most improved players,
bowling and batting well, while
Charlie
Whitbread, Max Reeve, Archie Heseltine
and
Oscar Wilbraham
all benefited from a
mix of A team and B team training.
Jaden
Ooi
devised a dangerous but successful way
of stealing runs from confused opposition
wicket keepers, batting effectively with the
ever-improving
Charles Marsden
.
Luke
Newland’s
bowling will undoubtedly bring
him success in future years, while
Lucas
Xiao, Merritt Factor, Alex Blackwell,
Jialiang Zhang
and
Isaac Aldred
all
played their part. Lucas’ strong hitting was
instrumental in the side’s only win, in the
final game, against Cheam. Other players
who participated in at least one match were
Obum Onwu, Tommy Stonor,William
Meng
and
Albert Collins
.
