Under 9

A XI

In any sporting establishment,

the development of its

youngest members is vital

for its future and, as far as

Summer Fields cricket is

concerned, that future is very

bright indeed. The Under

9 A team had a fantastic

season in more ways than

one: the results were good

but more importantly their

improvement both individually

and collectively was vast.

For many, the first fixture of the season, a

pairs match against Elstree at home, was

their very first experience of competitive

cricket. They came out victorious and

learnt a lot in the process. Such was the

rapid progress of the group, JJP swiftly

upgraded all the remaining matches to

‘normal rules’ games (albeit limited overs).

The boys listened in training and were

quickly grasping the right methods and

tactics needed for 20-over cricket as well

as the game’s many complexities.

Cothill and Ludgrove both visited and

were beaten.

Jago Edsberg

scored 50

in each game, thus claiming the highest

average in the school. He was backed up

nicely by his cousin

Jake Lee

and fellow

opener

Eddie Aram

. Sadly, our fourth

match was a defeat by an outstanding

Dragon team. The trusty bowling of

James

Flach

and spin of

Hal Holland

put us

in a position to win the game but sadly

the middle and lower order who had

not been called upon to this point were

found out by a superb bowling attack. At

home to Caldicott we gave a wonderful

performance in the field, with

Somto

Sylvester-Monye

particularly impressive,

but our opponents were victorious off the

penultimate ball of an enthralling game.

With a winning season on the line

and after yet more hard work in training

sessions, the boys travelled to Cheam for

the final match. A dramatic game saw

Henry Snow’s

brilliant death bowling and

some extraordinary fielding guide us to

another victory with one ball to spare.

Contributions from opening bowler

Snow were consistently of the highest

quality and against better batsmen he may

well have had more wickets to go with

an admirable economy rate of under 1.3

runs per over. Perhaps the most pleasing

element of this season was the collective

team spirit shown. In keeping with this,

Lade Ogundeyin, Leonardo Lord, Max

Reeve

and

Ben Jurdjevic

 deserve a

mention for their all-round contributions

throughout the

term.
