Junior

Colts B XI

The Junior Colts B’s record for

the season – two wins, one

draw and six losses – does

not look impressive, but I was

nevertheless thrilled with the

team’s improvement as a whole

during the term.

We secured a great win over Magdalen

College School: we made 192-2, with the

captain

Toby Rooth

playing a captain’s

innings, scoring 60 not out, and in response

MCS made 97-5. The other win was a

thrilling match played against Cothill.With

the team needing 30 runs off the last 15

balls, in came

Chinweike Onwu

, who hit

a rapid 22 runs and saw us through to

victory in what had been a close game. The

JCBs also enjoyed a thriller against Elstree.

There was great teamwork and enthusiasm

throughout the game and

Ewan Gleason

and

Milo Millard

did their best to help us

get close to the opposition’s total, with

scores of 48 and 46 respectively, but we

just fell short of reaching the target. I hope

these boys continue playing cricket in

similar spirit over the years to come and I

wish them all the best in their remaining

time at Summer Fields.

Jack Spargo

Junior Colts C & D

Not everyone in this group had learned the basics of the game with

JDAN the previous summer but those who were new to cricket

applied themselves well and most improved their skills.

Everyone was keen to use a proper ball, rather

than the ‘incrediball’. Much emphasis was

placed on learning to bowl and several novices

showed promise in this department, notably

David Otegbola

and

Masato Higuchi

.When

it came to school matches, the main problem

for all was delivering six consecutive straight

(-ish) balls; luckily most of our opponents were

similarly inconsistent.

At Moulsford the JCD team played pairs

cricket and lost a close contest in which

Gerald Somovidis

hit a few boundaries (and

later gained promotion), whilst the JCCs

recorded an exciting last-ball victory in a 20-

over game.

Vladimir Nevskyy

(26), supported

by

Will Cannon

, provided the backbone to

our innings, whilst

Elliot Regazzacci

was the

pick of the bowlers (3-7). In the pairs match

against Elstree we simply didn’t take enough

wickets to reduce their total; Nevskyy was top

scorer and then promoted to JCB. In another

pairs contest at Ludgrove a satisfying win saw

two boys revealing some potential:

Zong

Yang

batted masterfully whilst

Zachary Tse

took two wickets in his two overs and, more

importantly perhaps, gave away no wides

or no-balls. In a timed game at home to the

Dragon we simply didn’t score enough runs,

althoughYang and

AustinAnite

gave us a

glimmer of hope for a short while. Back to

pairs cricket at Cothill, our innings included

very few opportunities to score with the

bat (such was the standard of the bowling!);

our hosts were always in contention as they

chased our total, until a run-out in the final

over put the game out of their reach. The

Caldicott match was, as reported elsewhere,

abandoned because of extreme weather

conditions – thus saving us from almost

certain defeat.

This was an enjoyable season with a group

of, for the most part, enthusiastic and biddable

boys.With continued application and practice,

some of them should develop into competent

cricketers. I am grateful to Mr Macdonald for

his help during the term.

Others who played for JCC were:

Ivan

Silkin, Zachary Sam-Alao, Dima Fitzherbert,

Blake Low,Tobi Amusan, Jago Barker, Mark

MacNaughton, Mubarak Tinubu, Kent

Horiguchi

and

MylesWilliams.
