Culham: Teambuilding
& Combat
Removes & 5th Years – June
With Common Entrance and school exams behind them, some
of the seniors took their opportunity to escape for a weekend of
‘Black Hawk Down’ outdoor activity at CulhamAdventure Park –
another RHB special.
Things were close, fire and counter-fire raked
the air;Alpha team held both theTank and
Merlin Helicopter positions, but the ‘DOM box’
in the zombie maze was just too well defended
to attack successfully. If only their snipers,
positioned out wide, could get better visibility;
the commando-wielding infantry were making
little headway, even though ammunition and
‘respawns’ were unlimited. On this dark night,
however, overall supremacy on the battlefield
was almost an impossibility and a temporary
night-time cease-fire was declared.Arms
would be taken back up following
delicious French pastries at
first light.
Luckily, these soldiers were going to
bed well fed.Wood-fired pizzas had been
freshly baked and devoured before hot-
chocolate and smarties rationed out. Upon
waking it was commonly accepted that the
helicopter had been the most comfortable
of the various digs; the old single decker bus,
whilst an exciting proposition earlier, proved
less comfortable than imagined. Luckily,
aerial training had been undertaken on the
high-ropes course, giving a bird’s-eye view
of the terrain, and the chance for several
exhilarating zip-wire trips back to earth.
Back in combat activities, Bravo team
were tasked with arming a bomb
hidden inAlpha’s base. Superior
marksmanship and warcraft,
however, saw the mighty-
men of Alpha hold firm
despite a last-minute
enemy strike down the left
flank under the cover of several
smoke-bombs. Overall victory tasted all
the sweeter when followed by a daring leap off
the 42-foot telegraph pole!
