Bridge Club

Bridge has been a very popular game here at Summer Fields

since TMLE, RBL and GIJP started to coach the boys and it is

played throughout all the year groups, mainly on Tuesdays.

It is very good to see lots of boys learning at

such an early stage in their lives with the help

of their three excellent teachers. OnTuesday

15th March the annual Parents and Sons

bridge evening took place in the brand new

Salata Pavilion. As usual the occasion gave

the opportunity for parents to partner their

children at bridge and enjoy some delicious

food and wine (parents only, sadly!).There

were ten tables of boys and their families

playing round after round of bridge and

catching up on the busy week. The amazing

catering staff produced playing card inspired

cakes for the children and then a supper for

the parents. Everyone had a great time and

the boys had an easy evening with no prep!

3rd Form Challenge

This annual camping experience

was again held in the Summer

Fields plantation, down near

the River Cherwell, in mid-May.

When it was all over, as forty-four tired

yet contented 3rd Year boys hiked back to

school, they perhaps reflected upon the

events and lessons of the previous two

days. Building and sleeping in their own

team shelters; lighting fire with flint strikers;

making and racing stretchers; constructing

underground fire-pits; learning about the

woodland and its wonders; baking bread

over the fire; lots of eating and washing up;

standby … LINE; knife skills; knot tying; SOS

reflection training; the list could go on and

on! They behaved excellently and, in their

four ‘regiments’, learned a lot about living

and working in a close-knit group. This was

an invaluable experience as their new found

skills equipped them for the future challenge

of the Removes’ Cornwall expedition in

September 2016.

Boys’

Gardens

A year after the opening of

the re-developed gardens, the

whole area is now looking

more mature and established.

The route to and from Borva and

Savage’s is greatly enhanced and it

is one of the highlights of the tour

for prospective parents! The various

gardening prizes were keenly contested

by an enthusiastic group of regulars and

it was a difficult job for this year’s judges,

APWB and JSB. The award for the best

variety of produce went to

Ned Sekula

,

Max Lee

and

Gunnar Saastad

, whilst

the best overall garden was that of

Steve

Zhao

and

David Jin Li

.
