Headmaster Appointed10/06/2009
On Wednesday 10 June 2009, the Board of Governors announced with great pleasure, that the post of Headmaster of Summer Fields has been offered to Mr David J.C. Faber, M.A. (Oxon), O.S. Mr Faber has accepted and will be in post from 1 September 2010, in succession to Mr Robin Badham-Thornhill.
Mr Faber was himself educated at Summer Fields, he was for nearly nine years a Governor, most recently as Vice Chairman, and his son Henry was at Summer Fields from 2000-2005. Mr Faber attended Eton College and Balliol College, Oxford, from which he graduated with a degree in Modern Languages.
Between 1992 and 2001 he served for two terms as the Member of Parliament for Westbury in Wiltshire, holding a number of Committee and Opposition Front Bench positions. In 2001 he left politics to pursue a career as a writer and historian, and has since published two highly regarded books on the Amery family and the 1938 Munich Crisis. He is an occasional lecturer and contributor to various publications.
He has also worked as a non-executive director of several companies, been for many years an active trustee and Chairman of two prominent national charities working for the victims of addiction, and has served for nine years as an elected member of the main Committee of the M.C.C. In addition to his public work and his scholarly interests, he is a very keen sportsman.
Mr Faber is married to Sophie and they have two young daughters. David has retained a deep love of Summer Fields ever since his own days as a boy here and the Governors have the utmost confidence that he will serve it with distinction in his new role.
