Sport at Summer Fields
Young people have so much to gain from the challenge of sport. As well as improving their physical fitness and self-discipline, they learn how to cope graciously with both victory and defeat. They make firm friends and develop the ability to work in a team, to lead without arrogance and to accept the leadership of others without resentment.
At Summer Fields we play football in the Michaelmas Term, rugby in the Lent Term and cricket in the Summer Term. However, other parts of the week are designated for ‘minor sports’ which include a whole host of activities such as basketball, badminton, cross-country running, Eton Fives, fencing, hockey, riding, shooting, squash, swimming, tennis, trampolining, water polo and much more.
Summer Fields' exceptional indoor facilities, extensive grounds and playing fields (70 acres), provide wonderful opportunities for all boys to enjoy a large number of sports and activities. The magnificent Sports Centre is home to a large Sports Hall, three squash and two Eton Fives courts and a shooting range. Adjacent to the Centre is a 22 metre indoor pool. In the grounds there are five hard tennis courts, a nine-hole golf course, an adventure playground and an outdoor swimming pool for use during the summer months. All the sports are coached by fully qualified members of staff and the boys are encouraged to be involved in as many activities as possible.
