Chapel

At Summer Fields we are lucky to have our own Chapel and resident Chaplain, who plays a major role in the School community. Boys and staff attend Chapel services four times a week: there is a short service on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and a longer service on Sundays to which parents are warmly invited.

In essence, Chapel provides a warm and secure place where the whole school community can pause from the rush of the daily routine and reflect together on the love and wisdom of God. Roman Catholics enter fully into the life of the Chapel – they receive weekly instruction from a local priest and attend Mass.

Each year a number of boys are prepared for Confirmation. Senior pupils are invited to the Chaplain’s house for Confirmation Club. Usually the whole year-group attends the first few sessions – and some twenty pupils then go on to be Confirmed in the Lent Term.

Boys follow PSHE courses, which help them to understand their own feelings and experiences as well as those of other people. It is our primary duty to help boys develop sound moral principles and this is achieved through discussion, explanation and example. Above all we encourage tolerance and kindness, with the boys expected to help and support each other. Bullying, in any form, is not tolerated.

By the time they leave Summer Fields, boys will have firm ideas of what is right and wrong, which is becoming increasingly valuable in a society where so many moral standards are being challenged and eroded.
