Will He Be Happy?
"The pastoral care of pupils is an outstanding feature of the school, as is the school’s concern for pupils’ welfare, health and safety… The quality of the relationships between staff and pupils helps the school fulfil its aim of being a happy, caring, well-disciplined environment."
- ISI Report 2009
It is paramount that every boy is happy and feels secure, only then will he be able to thrive and enjoy his time at school. To this end, enormous emphasis is placed on individual care and attention. There is always someone at any time of the day or night who will listen, encourage and advise the boys in their care.
Summer Fields’ approach to pastoral care was highly praised in the 2009 ISI Report stating that ‘pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is outstanding, reflecting the school’s aims of encouraging strong moral and Christian values, respect for others and helping pupils grow in confidence and acquire self-discipline.’
Each boy has his own pastoral tutor with whom he meets regularly and who is responsible for his academic and social welfare. Additionally, the Lodge-parents, resident Chaplain, Form Masters, the Headmaster and his wife all play major roles in looking after a pupil’s well-being.
The School’s aim is that a boy will increase in confidence, become more independent and be compassionate and caring. We aim to help each child to learn to make friends easily, while simultaneously understanding that we are all different individuals with our own strengths and weaknesses.
