Buzzer
Every Wednesday and Saturday at 4.30pm, Mrs Sparrow opens Buzzer, Summer Fields’ school shop. With stock including seven types of SF teddy bears, frisbees, harmonicas, bouncy balls and much more, the boys are able to buy anything from noisy toys that drive their Lodge Parents mad, to stationery that keeps their Form Masters happy. Often the queue will extend beyond the boundaries of the Sports Hall when Mrs Sparrow has stocked a particularly rare type of Go-Go or highly sought-after set of Top Trumps.
Buzzer was established at Summer Fields many decades ago, not just as a means of entertainment for the boys, but also as a tool to teach the importance of budgeting and managing personal finance (albeit on a small scale!). While it is often the case that a First Year will spend his entire Buzzer budget in the first half of his first term, Buzzer nonetheless remains one of the highlights of the week at Summer Fields.
