Academic
Summer Fields has always enjoyed a strong academic reputation. In recent years boys have won major scholarships to many schools including Eton, Harrow, Radley and Winchester.
Academic success is dependent on excellent teaching and the main focus has been on attracting outstanding teachers – we believe that this has been achieved.
The Director of Studies oversees the academic side of school life. The rich and varied curriculum is stimulating and suitably demanding but, at the same time, flexible enough to suit the ability of each boy. Self-motivation, enquiring minds and an eagerness to learn are all cultivated; and perhaps, most importantly, boys learn how to learn – a skill that lasts a lifetime.
The first two years (seven and eight year olds) have separate timetables and are taught by their form teachers for the majority of the subjects. The average class size is 16 and teaching areas are light, colourful and well-equipped. All are connected to the ICT Centre which is at the hub of the School and plays a major part in many of the academic and extra-curricular activities.
The School Librarian is responsible for running the impressive Library, which is well-stocked and has its own computer area.
