Time to Spare? tells the Summer Fields story from before its beginnings when Mrs Maclaren decided to teach her daughter Greek and the Editor of Punch magazine sent his two sons to join them.

Founded in 1864, Summer Fields has had many famous pupils, such as Marcus Binney, Bernard Darwin, Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall, Ronald Knox, Christopher Lee, Patrick Macnee, Victor Pasmore and Harold Macmillan.

This book sketches the world that the boys inhabited, with rewards and punishments, in-group jargon and catch-phrases, ink, chalk dust, repetitive jokes and strange food, victories and defeats, Sports Days and Scholarship half-holidays.

The history of the School is not only fascinating in itself, but contains rewarding insights into the life and history of Oxford and the Nation. Originally published in 1989, this profusely illustrated book is great value at the reduced price of £10.00.
