The Maclaren Foundation

The Maclaren Foundation is a registered charity (registered charity no. 1112215) that was established to support the work of Summer Fields with two main aims:

• To provide scholarships and bursaries for boys of outstanding ability whose parents could not otherwise afford to pay the fees.

• To support the development of the School’s facilities.

Through the generosity of past and present benefactors, The Maclaren Foundation helps to ensure that Summer Fields will maintain the quality and breadth of education that is so important to the School’s mission and to our community.

The Scholarships and Bursaries Fund

Many Old Summerfieldians look back on their time at Summer Fields as laying the foundations for their future achievements. Today such an education has become increasingly expensive, thereby making it inaccessible to some children who would benefit enormously from a Summer Fields education.

The Scholarship and Bursaries Endowment Fund provides funding each year for appointed Maclaren Scholars. The Maclaren Scholars enrich the life of the School and are provided with the skills and knowledge to achieve their ambitions.

The Development Fund

Whether it be the classroom, art studio and music school, or indeed the Lodges, pools and sports hall, Summer Fields’ facilities and setting contribute a great deal to its standing amongst the leading boarding preparatory schools in the country. Through the work of the Maclaren Foundation, provision is made to ensure that Summer Fields continues to develop and expand as an institution of excellence.

Ways To Give

• Single gift by cheque
Writing a cheque to The Maclaren Foundation is a simple way to support the School. Please download and print this giving form, or contact the Development Office at the details above for a giving form.
• Regular giving by standing order
Setting up a standing order will provide a long term means of support for the Foundation. Please download and print this giving form, or contact the Development Office at the details above for a standing order form.
• Legacies
Leaving a legacy or bequest is a very personal way to support to the Maclaren Foundation. Remembering Summer Fields in your Will provides continuing support for the School and may provide tax relief on your Estate. Adding an extra bequest does not entail re-writing one’s Will; it can be amended by codicil. If you would like more information about how to include the Maclaren Foundation in your Will, please contact the Development Office at the details above.
• Payroll giving (PAYE)
The Payroll Giving Scheme, or Pay As Your Earn, means that your gift is taken directly from your gross pay, giving you immediate tax relief the highest rate of tax for which you qualify. Individuals who are UK taxpayers and interested in this method of giving need to request an application form from their employer, detailing their wishes to donate to the Maclaren Foundation. The employer will then deduct a gift directly from the salary before tax is applied.
• Gifts of shares
Giving shares can provide both income and capital gains tax relief. A gift of shares qualifies for tax relief equal to the market value of the shares on the day the gift is made, including associated costs such as broker fees. The tax relief can be claimed for the year in which the gift is made.
• Matching gift schemes
Often donors do not realise that their employers have a matching gift programme that could increase the size and impact of their gift. Check with your Human Resources Department and send the Matching Gift Form provided by your employer to the Development Office at the details listed above.
